So, express service covers much of the NYC subway system, but still many important stretches of track only have local trains. The 6 Pelham Express and 7 Flushing Express do, but I think the following lines still need weekday express service: 1, 2, 4, D, F, L, N
Here’s the routes:
1(Broadway Express):
Van Cortlandt Park-242 St
231 St
Marble Hill-225 St
Dyckman St
168 St
145 St
125 St
96 St
86 St
79 St
72 St
66 St-Lincoln Center
59 St-Columbus Circle
50 St
Times Square-42 St
34 St-Penn Station
28 St
23 St
18 St
14 St
Christopher St-Sheridan Square
Houston St
Canal St
Franklin St
Chambers St
WTC Cortlandt
Rector St
South Ferry
I ride the 1 every day, and it’s fast, but needs express service!
2(White Plains Express):
Wakefield-241 St
Gun Hill Rd
E 180 St
3 Ave-149 St
149 St-Grand Concourse
135 St
125 St
116 St
Central Park North-110 St
96 St
72 St
Times Square-42 St
34 St-Penn Station
14 St
Chambers St
Fulton St

Hoyt St
Nevins St
Atlantic Ave-Barclays Center
Bergen St
Grand Army Plaza
Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum
Franklin Ave-Medgar Evers College
President St-Medgar Evers College
Sterling St
Winthrop St
Church Ave
Beverly Rd
Newkirk Ave-Little Haiti
Flatbush Ave-Brooklyn College
The 2 is remarkably fast in Manhattan, and not slow in Bronx or Brooklyn and I love it, but it is the second longest line in the system, and stops a huge ton. This would help in the Bronx.
4(Jerome Express):
Woodlawn
Bedford Park Blvd-Lehman College
Kingsbridge Rd
Fordham Rd
Burnside Ave
161 St-Yankee Stadium
149 St-Grand Concourse
125 St
86 St
59 St
Grand Central-42 St
14 St-Union Square
Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall
Fulton St
Borough Hall
Nevins St
Atlantic Ave-Barclays Center
Franklin Ave-Medgar Evers College
Crown Heights-Utica Ave
Of all the lines I mentioned, I’d say the 4 needs it the least with all the stops it already skips in Manhattan and Brooklyn, but a Jerome Express could help with overcrowding.
D(Concourse Express/West End Express)
Norwood-205 St
Bedford Park Blvd

Coney Island-Stillwell Ave
I know the F has some express service already, but it needs more. Like the 2 it is extremely long and stops a lot, and although it also has a very fast section(Queens Blvd) it stops a ton and unlike the 2 is slow when it’s local in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
L(Canarsie Express):
8 Ave
6 Ave
14 St-Union Square
3 Ave
1 Ave
Bedford Ave
Lorimer St
Myrtle-Wyckoff Aves
Broadway Junction
Livonia Ave
Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway
The L train commutes over a million commuters per day, and express service would be AWESOME!
N(Astoria Express/Sea Beach Express):
Astoria-Ditmars Blvd
Queensboro Plaza
Lexington Ave-59 St
5 Ave-59 St
57 St-7 Ave
49 St
Times Square-42 St
34 St-Herald Square
14 St-Union Square
Canal St
Atlantic Ave-Barclays Center
36 St
59 St
New Utrecht Ave-62 St
Bay Parkway
Coney Island-Stillwell Ave
Lastly, an honorable mention:
You know how I said the 2 and F are extremely long and therefore need express service? And all the trains I included are pretty long except the 1 and L. Well, that means you can’t discount the A either, as it is the longest train in the system. The reason I didn’t include it is because it’s already express all the way from 168 St to Euclid Ave, so it wouldn’t make so much sense to have an extra express. However, one possible thought is a Rockaway rush hour express. During rush hour, Ozone Park-bound trains run normally local, but JFK-bound trains run normally to Broad Channel, then go express, going either to Far Rockaway-Mott Ave or Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St in one stop. The S is extended and handles local stops from Rockaway Park to Far Rockaway through Broad Channel, and all A trains go express in both directions. When rush hour stops, JFK-bound A trains will go only to Far Rockaway, local, and the S will be local only from Rockaway Park to Broad Channel.
So yeah. That’s it. I think it would speed up service for many many commuters across the city. The existing 6 and 7 express trains certainly have. Comment your thoughts below!
