I took the M shuttle to Marcy this afternoon. I got on at Metropolitan and had to go to Fresh Pond. It was raining, and I had my child with me, and I would have had to wait an hour for an Uber Car Seat. I’m pretty confident the bus said it was “M to Marcy” and ticket reading machine said “shuttle service”
The driver didn’t stop near Fresh Pond Rd. and started driving towards Myrtle (towards Zum Stamtisch), not any of the M stops.
They wouldn’t let me get off the bus, and said the next stop would be “Putnam” which I said I think they passed and they simply said “no.” (I realized later I was correct, I assumed I confused Palmetto and Putnam at the time).
They wouldn’t give me any kind of an estimate of how long it would take to get there, what the cross street was, what line were we on, etc. I felt like I was suddenly in some weird masculinity contest with them. Fwiw, I don’t think I was super rude to them but I could have been nicer as I was getting stressed about walking with my child in the rain.
Eventually he just kind of stopped and opened the door near Zum Stammtisch/McDonald’s and I got off. Other people were requesting stops and asking where the bus was going and the driver was getting more recalcitrant.
My question is did I mess up and somehow this was another bus line? And related, my understanding is I can’t request to just get off the bus but what are you supposed to do if the bus driver is just being weird/having a day but is straight up going the wrong way? They weren’t going towards Myrtle Wyckoff.
I’m not really interested in reporting them in some way, I figure they didn’t want to work during the Memorial Day weekend which I can sympathize with.
