Venting about my block being so nasty

for context, i’m a native new yorker, and my entire family is from the bronx I’ve lived in and out of the city for my entire life and new york trash isn’t new to me

Even knowing bushwick is sorta on the dirtier side is not new to me

that said, my block (stockholm near wyckoff) is so filthy in unimaginable and new ways that it baffles me. Two blocks in any direction and it’s at least 2x LESS filthy.

I’ve found unidentifiable animal intestines sitting on an oxiclean container lid, even when i clean my and my neighbor’s sidewalks / sweep up they’re obliterated with trash within a day or so.

dogshit everywhere – i’ve honestly sat outside and watched dozens of dogs walk by and all of them picked up their dogs’ turds – but i guess mathematically if a dog shits twice a day all it takes is one owner to ruin a whole block.

One main culprit is the senior center nearby that seems to dump loose trash on the ground and keeps their compost loose in the bin, causing it to spill every single pickup. I’ve filed tickets on that building dozens of times on the 311 app and they even called me to tell me that they are aware literally hate that building, but it hasn’t improved much (they did switch up containers but don’t seem to know how to use them).

I’m considering putting up cameras outside my window just to catch the rogue shitter at this point, occasionally cleaning up the other trash on my block myself doesnt bother me as much as that – but jesus. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve the state of things?

It feels like things only reached this level after covid, but it hasn’t come down – the rest of the city actually feels cleaner than usual this year maybe only by contrast.
