I was walking in the area of the John Clyde Native Grassland Preserve in Middlesex today and saw this grave site off of the trail. (Not my photo). I have been unable to find anything about Pvt. Wyckoff outside of a blurb on findagrave.com and a sermon by a Rev. Heery. From what I have found he enlisted in the Union Army at the age of 20 and was assigned to the 20th Regiment of the U.S. Colored Volunteer Infantry. Does anyone have more information about Pvt. Wyckoff? I did not expect to find a grave on my hike today. While the area is developed now, at the time of his death in 1901, this grave site would have seemingly been in the middle of nowhere at the time of his passing. I have been unable to forget this today and was wondering if there was more info on who he was and how he might have ended up interred here. submitted by /u/tshine91 to r/newjersey |
