Dr Leo Buerger was an austrian american pathologist surgeon and urologist

he is most famously known for giving details about the disease thromboangitis obliterans a disease which causes inflammation of small arteries generally associated with smoking

he wasn’t the first one to discover it as it was already discovered by Felix Von Winiwarter in 1879 in austria however dr Buerger gave the first pathological description of the disease

he was also famous in the field of urology as he made a cystoscope with the help of F tilden Brown , it was so successful it continued to be used by urologists for 60 years till it was replaced by modern lens system in the 1970s

he also devised the Buerger’s test which is used to check the flow of blood in arteries for the diagnosis of erythromelalgia

he also wrote a book about circulatory disturbances in the extremities
