Just got back from an amazing long weekend trip upstate with my brother, on a custom loop from NYC to Saugerties NY! We took off from Queens and followed the Empire State Trail north to Carmel (Nimham Fire Tower) to camp out night one. Day two we saved some distance by climbing the Nimham hills north, where we rejoined the EST and stayed on to Saugerties. The return journey doubled back for a part of the EST but continued on down to Goshen on the Walkill Valley Rail Trail. We camped out at a beautiful brewery in Chester NY that night. Day 4 was the most ambitious in terms of distance and elevation but the views in Harriman State Park were definitely worth the climb! Happy to share my route and any other details.
