DO NOT APPLY/INTERVIEW/RANK WYCKOFF HEIGHTS MEDICAL CENTER EM PROGRAM! You’ve been warned.

This program is an absolute shitshow. poor and passive leadership from the PD and the chairman is an ego-centric maniac. And if that isn’t enough, teaching is non-existent. The toxic culture is perpetuated mostly by the internal hiring of toxic alum and the chairman. There’s absolutely no such thing as practicing evidence-based medicine here. And don’t you dare ask “why” or inquire about the management of a patient; the attendings (90% of them) are not confident and easily take offense to questions and most questions are perceived as a challenge to their authority (again, lacking confidence in medical decision making). It is scary and unsafe to be treated here.

I’ve had the displeasure of being present for multiple traumas and it was total chaos. We literally have nothing readily available or available at all. If i were shot outside of the hospital entrance, i would rather risk dragging myself to the L train and going to a hospital 45 mins away than to be “treated” at this hospital. I would never suggest even my worse enemy be treated in this place.

The RN turnover rate is approximately 2 months. Don’t expect to have anything done or done on time unless you do it yourself (labs, transport, placing sick patients on monitor, etc).

You will not receive the training or medical knowledge you’ll need in order to become a competent EM doc if you come to this program. Please re-read that last sentence. This is exactly why many alum decide to stay on as faculty here, and still lack board certification years after graduating from this program.

This program is/will be on probation very soon, and i strongly suspect it’ll be uncredited in the very near future. ACGME and NYS is aware of what’s happening here and it’s only a matter of time.
