Hi all! Like many of you, I am very cautious with where I eat, and have really not eaten out much in the last 10 years. I almost always get sick when I do. I also have dairy and egg issues. So it’s somewhat compounded. But we found out about a Chinese food restaurant nearby that has really high ratings and is said to be celiac safe, so we got our courage up and tried it.
Friends, I had basically the entire menu to choose from. Not just 3-4 things that could maybe work but only 2 of which sound remotely appetizing- no, this was 90% of the menu. All the standard Chinese food things you might expect to find. It felt bizarrely…normal. Like twilight zone normal. I was a little overwhelmed with the choices.
The owner came over to say hi. We mentioned we came because we’d heard good things for those with celiac. He immediately listed off menu specials that were safe, made recommendations, and really made me feel like it would be taken seriously. I got crispy beef. A favorite from my past gluten eating life.
And then, the food came, it was SO good!!I wanted to cry. There was enough to bring home for leftover portions even after I ate until I was full.
I waited a week to write this because I didn’t think I’d really get away with no reaction, but I’ve been fine! We will be going back. If anyone is in north east NJ, near Wyckoff, “TS Ma” is excellent. They have another location in Montclair (originally wrote Madison but this was incorrect!) but we haven’t been there.
Wishing you all safe food.
