So for context I’m 21F born in Bushwick Brooklyn (shoutout wyckoff hospital) and raised in ridgewood, queens (so crazy that these are both like paragons of gentrification, growing up I always heard ridgewood was gonna be the next bushwick or Williamsburg in terms of gentrification but now it def shows). I still live in queens with my family though we moved out of Ridgewood. All I’ve ever known is this city yet sometimes I feel like an outlier in many social situations or areas because of how many transplants there are. Sometimes it feels weird walking through the streets I was raised on and seeing them turned into something else entirely and whenever I mention this to people (most of who are new here) they kinda just look at me weird. My whole friend group is NYC born and raised but a lot of the social places I’ll sometimes go to seem to be filled with young people who just moved here and for some reason there’s always this weirdness and I’m just wondering if anyone else feels this way. Idk if this makes sense but it’s so much easier for me to click with native New Yorkers even if we are very different in terms of background like race and class than it is for someone who might resemble me more but moved here. I will also add a lot of these newer people are also the social media/wannabe influencer types or came here for college and have some kind of main character syndrome so maybe it’s just these people that I keep meeting idk.
