Possibly got Listeria from a beloved deli sammie

Hey y’all, I just wanted to write this as the past couple of days for me have been absolute hell, and I want y’all to be healthy and safe.

I got a sandwich from the deli on Wyckoff and DeKalb, by the DeKalb L stop (Express, I think it’s called, the one by Abe’s), and the next morning started getting horrendous food poisoning. I thought it was just normal food poisoning, people thought maybe the Mayo was bad, but a friend sent me a CDC article posted a few days ago that there’s a Listeria outbreak in the US currently, and it’s mainly been popping up in NY.

For those that don’t know, Listeria is food borne illness that’s linked to when deli meats and cheeses aren’t heated to a proper temperature. Once it’s there, it’s very difficult to get rid of, and can survive in most place where the food touches. The symptoms are gnarly, and are about 10x worse than normal food poisoning. It has been rough the past few days, and it hasn’t gone away like normal food poisoning normally does. When untreated, it can leave you seriously ill, and oftentimes you need to be hospitalized due to dehydration.

I’m not really sure what steps to take to make sure the business knows they got me sick, but for now, I just wanted to let the people know to not get any fresh/hot food from this deli for the time being. It is not worth the risk of being this sick. And it’s not just one type of meat or cheese either, the Listeria bacteria will be all over the slicer, cutting boards, knives, and display case. Keep you and your people safe!!
