Moving to Brooklyn. Boerum Hill. Question about the safeness of the area.

My fiance and I are buying our first place together and we finally found, after months of searching, the perfect place in Boerum Hill. Our only hesitation is that it is right next to the public housing on Wyckoff St and 3rd Ave and we are concerned about the safety of the area. It’s the biggest purchase of our lives and we plan on having kids here next year so we’re just so torn. I did some research on the area and found some articles and posts specifically about warren street which is right smack in the middle of what one might call “The Projects” and I’m not hearing good things. Although the posts/articles are about 10 years old.

I guess I was looking to hear from some people that live in the area or are familiar with the area that might be able to comment on how safe they feel and if they’ve ever had any issues. Particularly if you have kids. The place we found is on Saint Mark’s place and it is zoned for Park Slope Schools.
